Wedding and Friend Date

Again, another late post, but a necessary post.   Over Christmas break two dear friends were married and Eric was a groomsman.  I love weddings.  I love seeing people happy and in love.  I cry at almost every wedding I attend, regardless of my relationship with them.  Luckily I had a great date (and no I don't mean Eric :)  Eric had his groomsman responsibilities, but luckily my dear dear friend Traci and I were able to reunite.  It was a wonderful time. And I got to see my husband all fancy.

Superbowl

In my regular fashion of late blog posts, here is a glimpse at our glamorous super bowl party!  We got together with our small group and overate on delicious snack foods.  The super bowl has to be the best, just for the wonderful food.  One of my friends even made strawberries that looked like little footballs, it might have been the cutest thing that ever was.  I spent most of the evening siting in the dinning room talking with the women folk.  After awhile into the game it seemed the husbands lost interest too.  Overall, I feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful group of friends.

snow day...lots of snow days!

One of the perks of living in a "southern" state is the frequency of snow days...even with only an inch or two of snow. Growing up in the Midwest  it would take an actual blizzard to call of school.  Here we have had 6 snow days since Thanksgiving.  It's pretty fantastic!

We even went back to our childhood days and spent some time playing in the snow with some friends(and yes we are all over the age of 24).  Unfortunately, Eric and I don't have any snow clothes.  Eric ended up wearing his long London Fog coat...yes he did dress to impress!

Husband loves computers.

Anyone who knows my husband knows that he is not extremely fond of animals.  He does not hate them, but he does not show them affection.  His mother rationalized this by saying, "It's okay he doesn't like animals ..he likes computers."  He does love computers.  However, I believe his heart is changing because of a small chihuahua.  They have a special bond and as much as he tries to fight it...there is much love!

See for yourself.

The Fractured Prune

I love the food network and trust them to guide me to delicious foods.  Naturally Eric and I were intrigued when our PA friends told us about a custom doughnut shop in down town PA.  We ventured to the Fractured Prune.  There, we were overwhelmed by the wonder of custom made, fresh out of the fryer, cake donuts.  How can you beat that?

30 to 40 different types of doughnut concoctions.  My husband selected a doughnut with mocha frosting and Oreo crumbs.  I was less adventurous with a standard vanilla frosting and rainbow sprinkles.  You can rest assured that we had no trouble reaching our calorie intake for the day!

Lancaster, PA pt. 2

More Pictures.  I can not help myself.  We visited the town of Lititz.  There we went to the Chocolate Cafe where all things are made with genuine chocolate, none of that artificial junk.  The lady who owned the shop gave us a very extensive history lesson about the cocoa nib. We then made our way through Lancaster.  We stopped at a country store where you could sample a variety of jams, jellies, salsas, and pickles.  Let's just say we didn't need to eat lunch after that stop.  In general, I sort of felt that we spent the whole day eating.  Not a bad vacation.

THE TURBO: 60% genuine chocolate 40% espresso

The friendly chocolate lady insisted on taking our picture...through the glass.  Yes it was as awkward as it seems...

I love the Amish.

Lancaster, PA pt. 1

A few weekends ago, Eric and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary...five months after the fact.  We have found that it can be a challenge to work between a grad school and teacher's schedule.  Finally we had our romantic getaway to Lancaster, PA.  Home of the Amish.  We started the weekend visiting with two dear friends at Messiah College.  We then made our way to a bed and breakfast on the north side of Lancaster.  Now I feel that a bed and breakfast can be a hit or miss, but this one was definitely a hit!  It was run by a little British woman named Wendy.  She was so spunky, I loved it.  She was there if we needed her, but didn't hover.  She gave us the inside scoops on all the sites.  We spent a wonderful weekend visiting small towns and taking in the wonder of the Amish culture. (confession: I am truly fascinated by the Amish.  And I think that Amish children are the cutest things ever!)  It was our first official vacation since our honeymoon and it was splendid.

Wilbur Chocolatet Factory...the originally Hershey!  Hershey stole the idea for the Hershey Kiss from the Wilbur Chocolate Bud...such scandal!

Amazing coffee house in Elizabethtown, PA.  All fairy tale themed.  And pretty hipster.

The day a cupcake shop came to town.

Gobble Cakes is one of the greatest things to happen to Blacksburg since we have arrived.  There is a part of me that believes that it came solely for my benefit.  I love the frosting  I love the cake, I love it all.  Every month they rotate flavors.  Some of my favorites have included chocolate almond, pomegranate orange, peppermint chocolate, and peanut butter chocolate.  SO yummy.  At the end of a long or difficult day...gobble cakes is the perfect medicine.

A very late Christmas post!

I apologize for such extreme lateness in my holiday post; however, the memories were just too wonderful not to share!  Being so far away from our families is extremely hard and our time over the holidays is quick but cherished.  I look forward to the days when we are closer to everyone.

My Room. Year 2.

This is long overdue, but I wanted to share a few pictures of my classroom.  Over the summer I told Eric that I was probably going to stick to the same theme I used last year...to which he responded with laughter.  My husband knows me too well to believe that I wouldn't be itching to change the room around going into my second year at Dayspring.  Sure enough I had to change it up.  SO we went from the JUNGLE to the OCEAN.

(So much organization!)

P.S. putting my classroom together might be one of my favorite things to do. period.

Back to Blogging.

I've been wanting to return to my dear blog for the past few months.  I love having a space where I can share thoughts and document our life together.  So I am going to make an attempt to get back into the blogging world.  Lots has happened since last spring including, a summer trip to the Midwest, knee surgery, a start to a new school year, and major whirlwind of grad school applications.

It was a good 2012 and has been an excellent start to 2013. I have lots to catch you up on, so we shall start slow.  And please forgive me for the randomness of the posts to follow.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend...I'll see y'all Monday!
